Tom Hiddleston is no stranger to the magical lure of Disney. Leaving aside the 33-year old’s engrossing, scene-stealing role as Loki in the studio’s popular Marvel franchise, the British thesp also happened to grow up on the films just like the rest of us. A talented mimic from a very young age, the actor cites Shere Khanfrom The Jungle Book as his first passable (and all-time favourite) impression. Given the quality of his Owen Wilson and Chris Evans, we can only guess at how fantastic his George Saunders must be.
In The Pirate Fairy, out on DVD and Blu-Ray tomorrow, Hiddleston tries his hand at voicing another icon from Disney’s vast animated pantheon: Captain Hook. As a younger, two-handed version of the famous Peter Panvillain, the actor marauds and plunders (and sings!) his way across the seven seas alongside Zarina, the titular swash-buckling sprite (voiced by Christina Hendricks), as they make off with Tinkerbell’s magical blue pixie dust.
We were lucky enough to get some one-on-one time with both Hiddleston and his Pirate Fairy co-star, the luminous Hendricks, right after their on-stage appearance last August at the D23 Expo. Tune in below as they share some tidbits about their new animated adventure and give us a sense of just what it means to be a part of the Disney legacy:
