Sherlock Holmes 3 is a go and 5 other things we learned from Robert Downey Jr.’s AMA

Would it be too much to ask that Robert Downey Jr. stars in a film at least once a month? The de-facto leader of the Marvel Cinematic Universe gives such good press and soundbites that we want him to hang around doing junkets and publicity as often as he can.

The A-lister took to Reddit today for an Ask Me Anything session as part of his promotional tour for his latest drama, The Judge. RDJ was as effusive, witty and honest as always as he answered a ton of fan questions. Tune in below to see our six favourite answers/takeaways from the actor’s AMA:

  1. Sherlock Holmes 3 Is A Go:

“Yes, we have a ‘Sherlock 3′ in development. We want it to be the best of the series, so that’s a pretty tall order.”

  2. He’s a fan of fellow Holmes thesp Benedict Cumberbatch and his BBC series:

“Very impressed with Benedict. Such smart writing on that show. I have screen envy.”

  3. There’s another famous fictional character he’s working on bringing to the big screen..and it might surprise you!

“Perry Mason is a property I’m looking forward to developing further, going back to the 1931 book series… Similarly to what we did with the first 2 Sherlocks, mining the original material for things that are ‘new.'”

  4. His (current) fave superhero ain’t who you might think…

“My 2-year-old is fond of Hawkeye, so just for today, he’ll top my list.”

  5. Let’s clear up that Iron Man 4/Mel Gibson statement, shall we:

“It was an offhanded remark to a journalist and friend. I have other projects in mind for Mel and I – sooner than later the Marvel Roster will be made public and all questions will be answered.”

  6. How is it possible he doesn’t have a deal with Downy as a sponsor or as a spokesperson?

“No, and I’m incensed. There’s no E in their Downy, so if they wouldn’t mind a re-brand with an additional vowel, I’d meet them halfway.”
